ADHD & ADD
What is ADHD & ADD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults. It’s linked to differences in how the brain develops and functions. Understanding of ADHD has grown significantly in recent years — particularly in women and girls — leading many people to seek a diagnosis later in life.
ADHD can look very different from person to person, and many people reach adulthood feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or unsure why certain things feel harder than they seem to be for others.
How ADHD shows up
ADHD affects executive functioning — the brain skills involved in organising, planning, focusing, managing emotions, and controlling impulses. It may show up as hyperactivity and impulsivity, inattentiveness (sometimes referred to as ADD), or a combination of both.
These challenges can impact learning, work, relationships, sleep, confidence, and self-esteem. Over time, many people develop coping strategies that help them “get by”, but often at the cost of increased stress, exhaustion, or self-criticism.
How myhappimind can help
At myhappimind, I offer a supportive, practical approach to working with the ADHD brain. I blend Solution Focused Brief Therapy, hypnotherapy, and simple brain-based education to help you build on your strengths and introduce small but meaningful changes.
Sessions focus on practical tools that can improve focus, emotional regulation, sleep, and day-to-day functioning, while also reducing overwhelm and supporting self-confidence.
Why this approach works
People with ADHD often respond best to therapy that is positive, structured, and future-focused. There’s no pressure to revisit the past. Instead, we focus on what’s already working, build motivation, and support you to feel calmer, more confident, and more in control.
The approach I use at myhappimind is flexible and adapted to the individual, whether I’m working with adults, young people, or parents seeking support for their child.
